World Porridge Day: The Golden Spurtle
Join us today to celebrate World Porridge Day with this special screening of The Golden Spurtle in partnership with Mary's Meals.
A warm and witty documentary set in the Scottish Highlands, where the tiny village of Carrbridge hosts the annual World Porridge Making Championship. Competitors from across the globe arrive to battle for the coveted Golden Spurtle, armed with nothing more than oats, water, and salt. At the heart of the story is Charlie Miller, the long-serving “porridge chieftain,” overseeing his final year in charge while reflecting on tradition and legacy. Alongside him are a cast of colourful contenders - from seasoned champions to inventive newcomers - whose quirks and passions turn the contest into something far more than a cooking competition.
Mary’s Meals is a Scottish charity and a global movement of people from all walks of life, united by the belief that no child in this world of plenty should endure a day without a meal. Mary’s Meals is not a movement that divides rich from poor, or giver from receiver. Every contribution is equally valued, from cash donations that buy the food, to the time and energy given to cook and serve the meals. 50% of the ticket sales (after costs) from this screening will be donated to Mary's Meals to support their incredible work. Please join us in supporting them. You can find our more about Mary's Meals here - https://www.marysmeals.org/.
