WatchWord: Cinema Without Compromise

Now available at The Montrose Playhouse!

For too long, deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences have faced a difficult choice: watch their favourite films or wait for specific, limited screening times. WatchWord changes that dynamic entirely.

Our discreet, line-of-sight augmented reality glasses bring closed captions directly into your field of view. This means you can pick any film at any time without missing a beat. There is no need to look away from the screen to read subtitles, and no reliance on scarce open-caption screenings.

Why WatchWord?
Total Freedom: Choose your film based on the title, not the time slot.
Immersive Viewing: Captions appear in your line of sight, keeping your focus on the action.
Fully Customisable: Adjust text size, colour, position, and focal distance to suit your preference.
Designed for All: The glasses fit comfortably over prescription eyewear and around cochlear implants.
Discreet Technology: Only the wearer sees the captions, ensuring a private and seamless experience.

How It Works
Using WatchWord is simple. Upon arrival, our staff will provide you with the glasses and a handheld controller. Once you are seated and comfortable, the dialogue from the film will appear projected on the lenses. You remain in control throughout the experience, able to adjust settings instantly or dim the controller screen to avoid distraction.

Please note: While new releases are fully supported, some older features may not yet include closed caption data. When booking to hire the glasses, we will always confirm availability for your chosen film.
